The history of su Coccu (Amulet)

Su coccu, ancient Sardinian amulet, is used to protect from the evil eye. It takes on different names like Sabegia or Pinnadellu. Despite this, its function is identical in every part of Sardinia, the stone absorbs the negative influences. Traditionally the stone is of obsidian or onyx, set between two silver cups. Carried under clothes, like a pendant it is a powerful amulet against the evil eye. It is said that if the negative influences are too strong, su coccu breaks, but the person remains unharmed. It has the task of soothing the person who wears it from all pain, of preserving it from the aggressions of poisonous animals, but above all from poisonous people. This amulet must absolutely be loaded with particular prayers in Sardinian language which activate its powerful protection against evil.

Su coccu mounted on the silver brooch, finely handcrafted, is given to newborn children by their grandmother or godmother to protect them from envy and the evil eye. He stuck to the height of his heart and had the task of capturing the envious eye of others that could have caused the child to harm. It is placed on the crib, on the stroller or on the clothes and absorbs the negative energies. With time even su coccu has undergone changes, in the sense that in ancient times the brooch was very popular as women wore the veil on their head, they used to pin it in the bodice. Currently, as times have changed but especially clothes (since Sardinian clothes are no longer worn in everyday life), we can admire bracelets, earrings and pendants, all very effective against evil.

First on Coccu it was strictly given as a present, but today it is also used to buy it for themselves. You can also give a bride as a gift to protect her and her relationship, or to a loved one affected by the evil eye. Anyone who is single can opt for su coccu in coral as this stone is famous not only for its antinegativity powers, but also to recall love.
