All the places in Kent with lower coronavirus infection rates than London’s Tier 2 boroughs

Kent is headed for Tier 3 after lockdown – despite many areas recording lower coronavirus infection rates than districts now placed into Tier 2.

MPs recently called for the Tiers to be separated by district due to the wide range of infection rates with Swale and Thanet at the two highest infection rates in the country and Tunbridge Wells at the lower end of the spectrum.

London will be returning to Tier 2 as it was, previous to lockdown which now means it will have fewer restrictions than Kent.

In particular, MP for Folkestone and Hythe was very upset with the news that all of Kent would be given the same Tier when parts of London in Tier 2 have higher infection rates than his constituency.

Mr Collins said, “the Tier 3 restrictions for Folkestone and Hythe are disappointing not just because we have lower infection rates than some Tier 2 local authorities, but because the latest figures show that the national lockdown has started to bring the infection rates down from their peak.”

Damian Green MP for Ashford also Tweeted his disappointment.

“I’m hugely disappointed that the whole of Kent has been put into Tier 3. Before lockdown, we were in Tier 1 so what has lockdown achieved? We need the full analysis made public.” He said.

The MP for South Thanet Craig Mackinlay expressed his displeasure on Twitter regarding Kent being placed into Tier 3 once lockdown ends ending his tweet with #unhappy.

“The whole of #Kent allocated as ‘Very High’ #Tier3 from 2nd December, subject to @HouseofCommons approval next Tuesday. Some of the incoherent measures notably shops, gyms, worship & outdoor sports different from full #Lockdown. Review 16th December. #Road2recovery” he said.

The infection rate is measured based on the population and shows the number of cases per 100,000 residents.
